The classics, the cozy favorites, and just a little bit of spooky!
Fall is officially here, and you know what that means? It’s time to break out the Halloween decorations, grab a cozy blanket, make some popcorn, and turn on all my favorite Halloween movies!
Now, let me start by saying that I am NOT a huge scary movie person. Give me a good Halloween classic, a little witchcraft, some ghosts, and a whole lot of nostalgia, and I’m happy! I can handle a little spooky, but I’m definitely not the person lining up to watch every new horror movie that comes out.
There are certain movies that I look forward to watching every single fall. Some I’ve loved since I was younger, and others are just too good not to watch again and again.
So grab your favorite Halloween candy because I’m sharing some of my favorite movies to watch this time of year!
Hocus Pocus.
Is it even Halloween if you don’t watch Hocus Pocus at least once? The Sanderson sisters, the music, the costumes, and all the chaos in Salem. This one is an absolute classic. It’s one of those movies that immediately puts me in the Halloween spirit. And yes, I will happily watch it every single year.
Ghostbusters.
Who you gonna call? This movie is just FUN. It has ghosts, comedy, a little bit of creepiness, and that iconic theme song that gets stuck in your head for the rest of the day. It’s the perfect Halloween movie when you want something entertaining without being completely terrified!
The Witches.
Okay, we can talk about how creepy this movie actually is? The original The Witches with Angelica Huston is one of those movies that sticks with you. Between the witches revealing their true appearances and their plans to turn children into mice, it’s definitely unsettling. But it’s also one of those nostalgic Halloween movies that I love revisiting!
Practical Magic.
Give me the gorgeous Victorian house, the small-town charm, the midnight margaritas, and Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Practical Magic is the perfect combination of romance, sisterhood, magic, and just enough darkness to make it a Halloween favorite. Honestly, the house alone makes me want to pack my bags and move right in. This is definitely one of those movies that gives me ALL the cozy fall feelings.
The Blair Witch Project.
I know, I know. I just said I’m not a huge scary movie person, and here I am including The Blair Witch Project! There’s just something about this movie that makes it so creepy. No elaborate monsters or over-the-top special effects. Just three people lost in the woods, strange noises, and your imagination doing all the work. This is definitely the movie on my list that requires leaving a few lights on afterward.
Casper.
Who doesn’t love Casper? This movie is such a sweet childhood throwback. Between Casper himself, the hilarious ghostly uncles, and the beautiful old mansion, it’s the perfect combination of funny, spooky, and heartwarming. And can we talk about how cute Devon Sawa was as Casper? If you know, you know?
The Addams Family.
They’re creepy and they’re kooky! I absolutely love the Addams family. Morticia, Gomez, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, and of course, Thing! Their entire family is delightfully strange, and the movie has the perfect mix of dark humor and Halloween atmosphere. Plus, Morticia is basically a Halloween style icon.
Gremlins.
Technically, this movie takes place at Christmas, but I absolutely think it deserves a spot on the Halloween movie list. Gizmo is adorable, the gremlins are complete chaos, and the whole movie has that wonderfully weird ’80’s movie feeling. It’s funny, a little creepy, and a great excuse to watch another childhood classic. Just remember the rules, no bright light, no water, and absolutely no feeding after midnight.
A Little Spooky, A Lot of Nostalgia!
And there you have it! Some of my favorite movies to watch during the Halloween season. I love that Halloween doesn’t always have to mean terrifying horror movies. Sometimes all you need is a good childhood classic, a cozy blanket, your favorite snacks, and a night on the couch.
Whether I’m watching the Sanderson sisters run wild in Salem, dreaming about the house in Practical Magic, or revisiting one of my favorite ’80’s and ’90’s movies, these are the movies that make Halloween feel like Halloween to me.

These are all my sort of Halloween movies, I don’t like anything too scary. I watched The Blair Witch Project once and that was enough for me. I was so scared afterwards. Hocus Pocus will always be my favourite.
