Birthday date with Hadley #2.

It can be hard to plan one on one time with your kiddos, so we are doing “birthday dates”, to ensure our daughter gets quality alone time once a month with either Mom or Dad. A birthday date is, on our daughter’s birthday date of each month, (her birthday is the 21st, so on or around the 21st of each month), she gets to have a “date” with just Mom or Dad. Having it around the same date each month, makes it easy to plan. Plus, it lets Hadley have something to look forward to each month that is special to her!

We first started this tradition last year, in 2023 (you can check last year’s posts out at the end of this post). We were only able to do ten out of the twelve months, November and December were pretty busy! Hadley enjoyed it so much, we are continuing it this year, and I’m sure many many more years to come!

Hadley had her birthday date for February with her dad and went to a Cyclones hockey game! It was her first professional hockey game, and she loved it. She even got a game puck to take home!

She loves the idea of having special one on one time with her parents each month. We take turns each month so we both get a chance to have our time with her throughout the year. I’m not saying we don’t get one on one time with her; I get a lot of time with her with my husband’s work schedule, but there is something special about planning something each month with her. It can be as simple as playing board games in the basement, coloring for an hour, going to a playground and eating dinner, just simple things. The point is, to be with just her and give her our undivided attention.

Airplane Themed 2nd Birthday Party.

We celebrated Huxley turning two, airplane style! He loves to watch the airplanes fly over our house outside, and always points up to the sky.

Without furtherado…

Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Mandy and I am your chief flight attendant. On behalf of Captain Huxley and the entire crew, welcome aboard Flight 002 with nonstop service to Cincinnati, OH. Our flight time will be 2 hours and 2 minutes. We will be flying at an altitude of 2,222 feet at a ground speed of 222 miles per hour.

At this time, make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in their full upright position, and your seat belt is securely fastened. Sit back and enjoy the ride!

The invitations were made from a website (that I can’t seem to find), I found where it was an instant download! Super easy and went perfectly with the airplane theme!

As you walk into our house, I did a chalkboard sign, and a sign on the front door. I am all about the signs!

In our family room, we put two giant inflatable airplanes on our mantle. And then hung streamers with a banner saying, “Huxley Airlines, and TWO.” On the counter area that connects our family room to the kitchen, I put miniature airplanes that each came with their own runway.

In the kitchen, we hung a smaller inflatable airplane from the chandelier. I failed to take photos of all of the food, but we made individually wrapped sandwiches, turkey or ham, and with all the sides. Homemade PB&J crustables for the kids. We had a variety of individual bags of chips, and almonds. To really get the feel of eating on an airplane!

In the living room, we had tables set up with airplane tablecloths! And more banners and signs! On the bar cart, we had water and pop. I made a little mini airplane and put Huxley’s head on it in Photoshop! Hadley loved this one the best!

As you walk into our office area, we hung more inflatable airplanes which I have to give props to my husband Kevin for figuring out how to hang them, so they weren’t lop sided! Inside one of our suitcases, I put all the goodie bags for the kids inside! I failed to take photos of all of the goodies inside the bags, but inside was a mini airplane pop-it, a luggage tag I personalized to each kid, and mini chocolate earth balls. The sweets were on the smaller office table, cupcakes, brownies, and tootsie roll pops that had propellers around each one. For Huxley, I just gave him one cupcake because I knew he wouldn’t really eat it.

The kids played outside a little bit. The weather was a little chilly, but warm enough to be out with a coat. We weren’t out long, because we had games to play!

The first game we played was pin the wing on the plane! I cut out individual wings with each kid names on it, they were blindfolded, and taped the wing on the plane. The second game we played was an airplane toss. I cut out holes in a large cardboard, had the kids make their own paper airplanes, and whoever got their paper airplane through the holes with the most points won! It was a little hard, because flying paper airplanes isn’t the easiest!

The third game was the passports! We took passport photos of each of the kids with Hadley’s Instax camera. They loved this part! Then we went upstairs, and they put their passport photo in each of their booklet. Next, they matched the different things to the passport stickers I gave them. For example, I put a photo of Jesus for the Jerusalem sticker. I couldn’t believe how much they loved this game! I put a lot of hours into making each passport booklet, so I’m super happy they loved it as much I did making it!

We sang Happy Birthday to our sweet Huxley! He was more worried about the sprinkles than eating the cupcake!

Huxley was all about his Dad today! When it was time to open presents, he wanted to be right by his Dad! It was the cutest thing.

The party was a great time! I love to go overboard with party decor. I love doing it, and I love making memories for my kiddos. It’s such a passion of mine to plan parties! We had so much fun celebrating our little two-year-old!

Weekly recap.

Recapping the week on the blog! Haircuts, turning 2, sickies, and trivia night.

Monday February 19
Every once in awhile, we’ll see turkeys in our backyard. They are huge and travel in packs. Kevin and Huxley both got haircuts. Huxley is getting better and better every time he goes!

Tuesday February 20
It was my turn to get my hair done, highlights and a trim. After the kids went to bed, I worked on Huxleys birthday party stuff!

Wednesday February 21
Huxleys second birthday! We took photos of him in a pilot jacket and hat. We didn’t do much for the day, except take a walk and hangout outside. Hadley was home sick from school, so we just chilled. Theirs something about turning two, it’s like they are no longer a baby anymore and starting to turn into a small child. He looks older, and acts older!

Thursday February 22
When Kevin is home, Huxley is glued to his hip. He wants to be wherever his Dad is. Hadley started to feel a little better, but you could still see it in her eyes she still wasn’t herself.

Friday February 23
Started the morning with a depuffing cream and eye masks. It’s one of my favorite things to do right now, I love it! I don’t know why, but Huxley sitting on his little stool in his room, he looks so big! It’s not a very clear picture, but I measured him on his ruler in his room and he grew about four inches in a year!

Saturday February 24
Failed to take only one photo on Saturday! I did a lot of birthday party prep work. And then my in-laws came over, so Kevin and I could go to trivia night. My daughter’s school puts this fundraiser on each year, and it’s a lot of fun. We came in 17th place out of 30 teams (I think!).

Sunday February 25
We celebrated Huxley turning two on Sunday, with an airplane theme party. It was a lot of fun, and the kids enjoyed the games more than I thought they would! Look for party details tomorrow!

Huxley is 2.

Our Huxley Beau is two years old today. Two years old! I can never believe it when the day comes, and your kids become a year older. It always goes too fast, every single time.

I’m not going to forget to celebrate myself too. As a stay-at-home mom, what we do every single day, twenty-four hours a day, is definitely worth celebrating. So, here’s to all the moms out there, cheers to you too.

And happy second birthday Huxley Beau, we love you so much.

We are having an airplane themed birthday party for his second year! We can’t wait to celebrate him turning another year older. His pilot jacket, and pilot hat, was fun to take photos of him in. He wasn’t a huge fan, but Dad helped with distracting him with a sucker in the background.

We are celebrating this weekend, airplane style! Stay tuned for more details on the party!

Happy second birthday my sweet boy!

Weekly recap.

Recapping the last two weeks on the blog! It’s been busy, and I had zero chances to blog last week, so this is a big one to catch up. Indoor softball practice, gastro doctor, alma mater trivia night, playground, Superbowl, colonoscopy, day date, and father daughter.

Monday February 5
Started the morning with a workout! Huxley had a blueberry muffin, scrambled eggs, and some shredded cheese for breakfast. Hadley has softball practice on Monday nights, and as soon as she gets done with her homework, she immediately changes into her softball pants. It’s so cute. While Hadley was at practice, Huxley and I went to Meijers and just looked around.

Tuesday February 6
Huxley had a blueberry muffin, scrambled eggs, and yogurt for breakfast. After Huxley ate breakfast, I did a workout. For lunch, Huxley had a fish fillet, veggie puffs, and carrots. When Hadley got home from school, and did her homework, we went outside, and she did some drawing with chalk. Huxley started eating the chalk, so he and I went inside and let her finish her artwork.

Wednesday February 7
Huxley had scrambled eggs, and peanut butter toast for breakfast. After breakfast, I did a workout. I recently found a fun YouTube channel, that does dance workouts to good music, and she makes it really fun! For lunch, Huxley had a chicken and cheese quesadilla. After lunch, I had an appointment with a gastro doc to find out more about my weird random stomach pains. After some conversation, he suggested I get a colonoscopy. I was super nervous about it, but know it needs to get done. Later on, I went to a trivia event with my high school. It was a lot of fun, and our team came in second place!

Thursday February 8
The sunrise on the way to drop Hadley off at school was so pretty! I had a work call in the morning and gave Huxley the iPad to distract him since Kevin had overtime at the firehouse. When Hadley got home from school, she did her homework, and then we headed to a park. We did one loop around the trail, and then played on the playground. The park we went to, recently did some updates and the playground was super nice!

Friday February 9
Started the morning with a workout! All the grandkids on my husband’s side, decided to surprise the grandparents by showing up at their house for a sleepover without them knowing! Hadley said she had fun, but bedtime was a little crazy. But she loved it, and it was her first time staying the night without us! And then, we stopped by the firehouse Kevin was at to drop off his uniform for his other fire job for the next day. Huxley and I did a lot of driving this day!

Saturday February 10
Huxley missed Hadley so much, so we did some random things to occupy our time. He loves to play in the car. Hadley got home later in the day, and we missed her so much! She had a great time though, she had lots to say about her surprising her grandparents. When Kevin got home, he was soo tired he fell asleep with his hand on my head he was that tired.

Sunday February 11
I’ve been loving this face mask, and eye masks for the mornings. My skin feels amazing! I tried to film a get ready with me video, and I’m terrible at editing videos! Hadley and Huxley made a cake for the Super Bowl. Hadley loved putting the icing on the cake. I made the field goal posts out of yellow straws, super easy! Kevin was working at the firehouse but was off at 7pm, so Hadley and I pretended to have dinner with Huxley. We grilled steak and had potatoes with Kevin when he got home. We ate dinner in the family room on tv trays and watched the Super Bowl!

Monday February 12
Hadley was off school the day after the Super Bowl, as a reward for reaching their walk-a-thon goal for school. I love the idea! Huxley loves it when she’s home, she plays with him so much it’s amazing. I didn’t take too many photos, but after we dropped Hadley off at softball practice, Huxley and I ate dinner at McDonald’s inside and we were the only ones there. Huxley loves people watching all the workers behind the counter.

Tuesday February 13
Our dog George passed away four years ago today. He was the best dog! Hadley begs to get another dog weekly, but I can’t seem to convince myself that’s a good idea right now. Maybe when Huxley is old enough to go to school! Today was the first day of my colonoscopy prep, and oh my was it ugly at first. My doctor gave me two, six-ounce bottles of the nastiest liquid to drink. One dose was today, and the next dose was tomorrow.

Wednesday February 14
I have to say, I was utterly shocked I did not once get up to go to the bathroom during the night. I slept all night long in my bed! I don’t know if I have good insides or what, but I was happy! During the procedure, we had my aunt Amy came over to watch Huxley, she fed him lunch and put him down for his nap. And then, our friend Annie came over to watch him after my aunt had to leave for just a little while. Kevin had to wait in the waiting room while they got me all hooked up, put an IV in for the sedation, and a blood pressure cup on my arm. I literally waited longer to go back for the actual procedure than the actual procedure took! While I waited, listening to all the patients answer all the medical questions from the nurses was the most comical part of the entire day. I was actually enjoying my alone time, laying in a hospital bed, listening to these people talk. Once I got wheeled back, it was over in under thirty minutes! After it was done, Kevin came back and they made sure I was okay after the light sedation, and we went home! For dinner, with it being the first Friday in lent, we went to Frisch’s and Kevin got the fish sandwich, and I was craving their pancakes! I have to say, having my first colonoscopy it was not that bad! My Dad said he remembers him having a huge gallon like container he had to take multiple times all night long. I was happy with just two doses! If you have to get it done, it’s not as bad as they say! Yes, you do have to rush to the bathroom quite a few times, but it wasn’t terrible! My advice, drink tons of water before the prep day, and buy those Tucks medicated pads for all the wiping!

Thursday February 15
The day after the colonoscopy was all good! I felt like my normal self for the most part. Started the morning with a workout. Some mornings, when I have to shower before Huxley takes a nap, he is occupied in our bedroom with the iPad. We have lived in our house almost six years now and have not done a thing to our bedroom! We need to, I am not a fan of that green color on the walls, or my old furniture I’ve had since I had my first apartment many moons ago!

Friday February 16
I’ve been doing these YouTube workout videos that are more like dancing, and the music is my jam. It’s so fun, and I actually sweat afterwards which I never used to with the other videos I would do. Hadley was off school this day, and her and Huxley had a cousin day at my parents’ house. My parents are watching my brothers’ kids while they are away on vacation. I bought donuts for all the kids for breakfast. Kevin and I had a little bit of a day date, which we very rarely ever get to do! We went out to lunch, and then went looking for a new truck for Kevin. His lease is up in a few months, so we are starting the search. I made the comment at lunch of how little was on the table for lunch without kids, like not even a crumb haha We picked Huxley up at my parents around dinner time, didn’t think it was the greatest idea for him to sleepover with all the cousins there. Hadley spent the night though, and we missed her. It started snowing on our way home, the roads were a little bad, but they were fine the next morning. My mom sent me a pic of Hadley and her older cousin sitting on the couch, having snacks for a movie.

Saturday February 17
My morning face mask and eye masks! I’m telling you; my skin feels so so good afterwards! Did another fun YouTube dance workout. If you are interested, the workout dance videos can be found here. Huxley had peanut butter and graham crackers, veggie puffs, and pretzels for lunch.

Sunday February 18
Hadley and Kevin had father daughter at her school, it was held in the church undercroft. Two years ago, Kevin wore a suit and tie, Hadley wore a dress, and they were very overdressed. This year, they went super casual, and most of Hadley’s friends wore dresses. They didn’t care though; they both prefer the casual look, so they were comfy happy! Huxley started having a runny nose, so I put a few drops of that Frida Baby vapor drops in his diffuser. If you haven’t tried that brand for little ones, it’s awesome! I use the breathe easy kit. When they have a little cold, or don’t feel good, I’ll rub the vapor stick underneath his nose before naps and bedtime, and I use the vapor wipes for his nose. Anything extra helps!

2nd Birthday Airplane Invites.

Huxley is turning two this month! We are celebrating with an airplane theme. He loves airplanes, every time he sees one fly over our house he points up to the sky and tries to say “airplane” really loud!

Here is the invitation! I found this randomly online and it was an instant editable download. I love it so much! I blurred out our address for obvious reasons, but you get the gist. I will always love a paper invite, not a fan of the evite era ha-ha. But I get the evite thing is easy! I love making the invites, I love thinking of the design, I love printing the invites, and I love sending them out! It’s one of my favorite things to do. I love paper!

The invite turns into a paper airplane! I folded them all into an airplane and put them into the envelope to mail. So cute!

I drew an airplane on the back of each envelope!

I’m so excited to plan this birthday! Party planning is so fun!
