My daughter turned 10 last month, and wanted to have a sports themed birthday! If you know my daughter, she loves anything sports related so this was a great idea. And I was excited to plan it, as always! Hadley chose to have four sports as the theme, softball, volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Her reasoning for that was those are the sports her friends mainly play!
We were having nine girls over our house, so I moved our main dining table back a little bit and brought our folding table up and placed it against the wall. We had lots of games planned, so I wanted as much room as I could for the girls to move around.
I love to put a chalkboard sign on the front porch!
On the bar cart, I used a sports plastic tablecloth on top. For snacks, we had veggie straws, pretzels, oranges, and later on I put apple slices out with peanut butter. I always like to have fruit accessible, they may not always eat it but usually one or two will grab some fruit.
The first activity they did was pick a water bottle, either blue or red. And to put their name on their water bottle with stickers! And, it was a plus, because they used the water bottle for their drink so I didn’t have to worry about spills and they got to take their water bottle home!.
We played five games, and the girls loved every single one of them! I used a poster board and put each girls name in alpha order, and after each game we wrote in the points!
Game #1: Basketball Pong:
– Black foam board (from the Dollar Tree)
– Plastic cups (from the Dollar Tree)
– Paint + paintbrush (already had)
– Washi tape (already had)
– Hot glue gun (to glue the cups on the foam board)
– Ping pong balls (not pictured from Amazon)
Each girl took a turn shooting five ping pong balls into the cups. Whatever cup they landed in, are the points they earned.
We ordered McDonald’s, 120 chicken nuggets, and 8 large fries through the mobile app. It was the best decision I’ve ever made for a party. It was the perfect meal to feed ten girls!
Game #2: Draw a Sport:
– Printer paper
– Washi tape or scotch tape
– Washable markers
Each girl had to draw a sport on someone’s back, and the friend in front had to draw what they were drawing on their back on a piece of paper that was taped to the wall. Which is why I had them use washable markers, for the walls, and for their clothes but luckily no one got any markers on any pieces of clothing! I told them to draw one line at a time, so the girl drawing on the wall drew the line they thought they drew on their backs. They had to draw a sport, like a basketball, a golf ball, the main thing for the sport they wanted to draw. It was fun to watch them play this game!
Game #3: Ping Pong & a Balloon:
– Ping pong balls (used from the first game the basketball ping pong)
– Empty bucket
– One balloon
– Timer (used iPhone)
This game started with Kevin dropping all the ping pong balls onto the floor, each girl had 45 seconds to keep the balloon in the air by not letting it drop, and to see how many ping pong balls they can get in the bucket while keeping the balloon in the air. If the balloon touched the ground before the time was up, they were out. Whoever had the most ping pong balls in the bucket won!
Game #5: Yes/No:
– Washi tape or masking tape
I put a long strip of washi tape down the center of the dining room. On one side of the line I put a “Y” for yes, on the other side of the line I put a “N” for no. It’s sort of like Simon Says, Kevin helped me with this one too. He would say, “yes no yes no no yes yes” and so on and so on. The girls had to jump on whichever side we would say. If they moved even a little bit towards the wrong side that was called, they were out. Last one standing won!
In true sports fashion, I made mini trophies of mason jars filled with candy. First place gold was mini Reese’s cups, Second place silver was Hershey kisses, and third place bronze was Rolos.
Goodie bags! All the girls got sports themed goodies of course! I hand painted a sports ball on each of the girls bags. Inside each bag were lollipops, softball squishy, sports hard candy, tattoos, sports beads for bracelets that Hadley made each of them, and shoe charms. They were all trading their shoe charms as they opened it!
Some girls chose to play soccer outside, and some wanted to play volleyball inside. I used a long piece of crepe paper as the pretend net. Eventually, they all ended up outside. Hadleys friends were so cute with Huxley, playing with him and including him in all the fun!
