Police Officer 4th Birthday.

My little man Huxley turned 4 this past weekend, and if you know our boy at all, you won’t be surprised that we went full speed ahead with a Police Officer Birthday party. From the moment family and friends arrived, it felt like they were stepping into Huxley’s very own precinct. And let me tell you, he took his job very seriously.

Big sister Hadley was the robber, and Huxley was the police officer arresting her. We bought her a black & white top, a black beanie, and a money bag she stuffed with sweatshirts!

Party Details
We kept everything classic police themed with lots of black, white, and blue details. On the front porch, I put caution tape on the windows, made a little sign and taped it on the front door, drew an outline with chalk on the ground, and had a saying on the chalkboard stand that says, “It’s not a party ’till the cops show up.”

When you walk into our house, I made small signs to go on a portion of the wall by the front door. The signs said crime scene, station, donuts, jail, mug shots. Against the wall in the dining room, I hand drew a police line-up background and made a police station sign. On the opposite wall in the dining room, I had a suspect board with Hadley and I as the suspects! Going into the dining room, I bought thin blue line tablecloths that came in a three-pack which was perfect! On the bar cart was pop, ice, water, and root beer for “mug shots.” I was surprised how many kids liked root beer!

The Birthday Officer
Huxley wore his police officer uniform the entire party and took his role very seriously. He would say “your under arrest” to his big sister many times. Four years old and already commanding the scene.

The Cupcakes + Food
I don’t keep anything simple when it comes to celebrations. We had cupcakes with white icing and blue sprinkles, and police themed cupcake toppers. The kids loved picking which one they wanted, my favorite was the German Shepherd dog. Donuts, trail mix, and popcorn. Kevin made chili for the adults, and we had hot dogs for the kids. Super simple!

Games + Gifts
I didn’t go crazy with games for this birthday, did a few simple things to occupy a little bit of the time. The party started at 4pm, which didn’t leave tons of time to do tons of games. The first game the kids did was pin the badge on the police officer’s hat, everyone played that one except for Huxley haha. The next game was make your own badge. I had previously cut out badges on blue paper for them all and then gave them some markers and stickers and that was it. The third game, or activity I guess it could be called was to color a police car, but no one wanted to do that one. So, we ate, opened presents, sang happy birthday, and then the kids pretty much played the rest of the time.

Hadley was the best big sister, helping Huxley open his gifts one by one. She was so patient with him! My mom got him the green heart of the ocean stone from the Moana movie. Every time we watch the Moana movie, he always says how he wants that green stone, so I had my mom go on the hunt for it. And found one on Amazon!

Happy Birthday to you
Why is it the cutest thing to watch your kid get sang Happy Birthday to? They get so happy every time! He was a little shy at first and wanted his dad to sit by him. And then he was all smiles.

The Sweetest Part
Watching him run around with his cousins and friends, completely in his element, reminded me how fast these little years are flying. He loves to say what every vehicle name is, whether it be a digger, excavator, or ladder truck, he knows his vehicles. But he still wants to cuddle on the couch, still can sort of fit in my lap, but somehow, he’s FOUR.

Favor bags
I will always be a fan of favor bags for birthday parties! I love giving to others, and it’s a thank you for taking the time to come celebrate my kiddo. Inside the favor bag were the following fun goodies!

  • ring pop
  • stickers
  • police lollipop
  • finger lights
  • glow-in-the-dark tattoos
  • finger cuffs
  • hand-cuffs
  • police badge stickers

The kids ran, chased, “rescued,” and probably broke a few speed limits along the way. It was the happiest chaos. Our brave, strong, rescue-loving boy.

Happy Birthday, Officer Huxley. We’ll always be your biggest backup.
