I’m starting a movie series each month this year, by doing different genres! Next up, my favorite family movies!

THE PARENT TRAP.
Identical twins, separated shortly after birth by the breakup of their parents, meet at a summer camp, and scheme to switch places and reunite their parents. Movie can be found here.

MY GIRL.
A touching coming-of-age comedy-drama about an eleven-year old tomboy (Anna Chlumsky) and her best friend Thomas (Macaulay Culkin). Movie can be found here.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS.
When an unannounced, uninvited and unwelcome family of fun-loving misfits converge upon a lakeside resort to join their relatives for a summer of relaxation, the result is anything but restful in this raucous comedy starring Dan Aykroyd and John Candy. It’s a vacationer’s worst nightmare, as wheeler-dealer Aykroyd, his sexually repressed wife and eerie twin daughters “join” the easygoing Candy and his straight-laced clan for a season of “fun” in the sun. Unfortunately, the only thing these two in-laws have in common is their intense dislike for each other. Soon, it’s brother-in-law against brother-in-law in an uproarious and hilarious fight to the finish to see which one really knows how to enjoy The Great Outdoors. Movie can be found here.

DADDY DAY CARE.
Two fathers lose their jobs and have to become stay-at-home dads when they can’t find work. This inspires them to open their own day-care center. Movie can be found here.

CAPTAIN RON.
Kurt Russell plays hilariously laid-back Captain Ron — a vagabond seaman who charts a course for comedy when he skippers the newly inherited Caribbean yacht of corporate executive Martin Harvey (Short) and his family! With his dubious nautical skills, Captain Ron takes the helm and creates wave after wave of hilarity as he leads the Harveys on a wildly amusing oceanic voyage in their dilapidated sailing vessel, all the while driving well-meaning Martin Harvey off the deep end! Movie can be found here.

FREAKY FRIDAY.
Dr. Tess Coleman (the hilarious Jamie Lee Curtis) and her teenage daughter Anna (rockin’ Lindsay Lohan) have one thing in common — they don’t relate to each other on anything. Not clothes or men or Anna’s passion to be in a rock band. Nothing. Then one night a little mystic mayhem changes their lives and they wake up to the biggest freak-out ever. Tess and Anna are trapped inside each other’s body! But Tess’s wedding is Saturday and the two must find a way to switch back — fast! Literally forced to walk in each other’s shoes, will they gain respect and understanding for the other’s point of view? Filled with comedy, rock ‘n roll and lots of heart, FREAKY FRIDAY is freaking fun everyone can enjoy together. Movie can be found here.

SOUL SURFER.
Inspiring true story of teen surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm in a shark attack and courageously overcame all odds to become a champion again, through her sheer determination and unwavering faith. The film features an all-star cast, including Anna Sophia Robb and Helen Hunt, with Carrie Underwood in her film debut, and Dennis Quaid. In the wake of this life-changing event that took her arm and nearly her life, Bethany’s feisty determination and steadfast beliefs spur her toward an adventurous comeback that gives her the grit to turn her loss into a gift for others. Movie can be found here.

THE ROOKIE.
Jim Morris (Dennis Quaid), father, teacher, and high school coach, thought his dream was over. He’d had his shot playing baseball, blew out his shoulder, and retired without ever making it to the big leagues. Then, in 1999, Coach Morris made a fateful bet with his perpetually losing team. If they won the district championship, Morris — who threw a 98 mph fastball — would try out for the majors. The team went from worst to first, and Jim, living up to his end of the bargain, threw caution to the wind and was on the road to becoming the oldest rookie in the major leagues. This heartfelt, uplifting story about not giving up on your dreams is a remarkable and affecting story that will have everyone cheering. Movie can be found here.

HOOK.
Superstars Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman and Julia Roberts star in award-winning director Steve Spielberg’s updating of PETER PAN. Movie can be found here.

HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS.
John Lithgow takes adventure to new heights in this big-laughs, big-hearted, big-footed comedy for the whole family! A chance car accident introduces the Hendersons to the real-life Bigfoot, who is anything but a ferocious monster and quickly becomes a true friend to the family. They’re soon in a race against the clock to return “Harry” to his natural environment before the authorities capture him. The fur will fly in this feel-good romp—an Oscar winner for Best Makeup—the whole family will enjoy again and again! Movie can be found here.

WE BOUGHT A ZOO.
Matt Damon gives a heartfelt performance in this film that’s based on a true story. When his teenage son gets into trouble, Benjamin Mee (Damon) gives up a lucrative newspaper job to move his family to the most unlikely of places: a zoo! With help from an eclectic staff, and with many misadventures along the way, Benjamin embarks on a fresh beginning to restore the dilapidated zoo to it’s former glory, while uniting his family. We Bought a Zoo is a celebration of the human spirit. Movie can be found here.

ARE WE THERE YET.
Ice Cube plays Nick, a playboy bachelor and sports memorabilia collector who dates a divorced mother of two young kids who never like the men their mom dates. Things go awry when Nick offers to drive the kids from Portland to Vancouver where their mother is stuck for work. Movie can be found here.

PRINCESS DIARIES.
A shy American teenager who discovers she is heir to the throne of a European kingdom. Under the tutelage of her estranged grandmother (Andrews), the kingdom’s reigning queen, Mia must choose whether to claim or renounce the title she has inherited. Movie can be found here.

ZOOKEEPER.
The animals at the Franklin Park Zoo decide to break their time-honored code of silence and reveal their biggest secret to zookeeper Griffin Keyes (Kevin James): They can talk! Movie can be found here.

JUMANJI.
Robin Williams stars as Alan Parrish, who, after 25 years, is finally freed from the spell of an ancient magical board game named JUMANJI. The two children who freed him, however, have unleashed a group of wild and exotic creatures from the game, forcing the long-lost Alan to save his hometown from destruction. Movie can be found here.
